Coaching and Story Consultation

In his 20’s, my husband was told by his therapist, “You are unique, but you’re not terminally unique.” This is true of you, too. You are one in seven billion. There is no one, no one in this entire, huge, overpopulated world that can make the particular contribution that you can make and by the same token, there is no one on this earth with your particular obstacles. My understanding of writers and the creative process, combined with my knowledge of story structure, enables me to identify problems and provide tailored strategies to complete your project.

I provide two basic types of writing services:

Story Consultation with or without a Rewrite Jumpstart Program for writers who have a completed draft of their work.
Process and Development Support for writers who are just starting a project, stuck in the middle of a project or are looking for more understanding of the process and particulars of good writing.

I offer a FREE initial 15-minute phone consultation to help you decide how best I can help.

Story consultation

When you share your story with the world, you want to be sure it’s structurally sound and hitting on all levels – character arc, plot, pacing, tension, theme. Are the characters undeniable? Is the dialogue alive and active? Does your story have an emotional impact? A thematic impact? A rigorous and in-depth analysis will help you see your story’s values, address what’s breaking down and help it reach its fullest potential. Most importantly, I will not plug your story into a one-size-fits-all structure model, but will ensure that your story fulfills your intention and is a product of your unique vision.

You get:

An in-depth analysis addressing all story elements that need attention and a marking a clear path to bringing them into line.
An in-person, phone or Skype session (1-3 hours) to discuss the analysis findings and go deeper into your intention for the story..
An audio recording of the session.
Written notes to guide you in implementing your rewrite.

Process and Development Support

Procrastination, paralysis, overwhelm, lack of time and focus are naturally occurring issues in the writing process – even for terribly successful writers. Few are immune, but none need be discouraged. I have time-tested, user-friendly methods for overcoming these age-old obstacles. Don’t let your story gather cobwebs while you wait for inspiration to hit. Let me help you take your process in hand and get your story out of your heart and onto the page.

You Get (if applicable):

In person, phone or Skype strategy sessions to evaluate your process issues, assign attainable goals and reignite your excitement and sense of play in the writing.
Audio recordings of each session.
Written page-by-page feedback to identify and solve technique issues.
Email support. You will keep me apprised of what is and isn’t working for you and get all your questions answered promptly. You will receive notes, tips and process adjustments to keep you moving forward.
